Trans Kink Zine Callout – Collaboration with Below the Belt & Subira Joy

Editors: Subira Joy, Finch Honeker & Darcy Leigh

Contributors will be paid £15 & all profits will go to SWARM (Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement)

We’re fed up of the same old images of kink and the same people getting all the attention! We want to expand how kink is imagined and to honour a wider range of experiences. We are making a zine that centres people and stories that are often left out – trans stories and especially stories by disabled trans people, trans people of colour, trans sex workers, fat trans people, trans women and/or trans femmes. Our stories deserve to be recorded and brought together in a beautiful collection. We don’t want to make everything Insta-shiney-happy: our experiences are real, messy, ambivalent, painful and complex (as well as hot, tender and filthy). This zine is a space for all of them.

Do you want to be involved? Send us your ideas! Some questions to inspire you:

  • What draws you to kink? What do you get out of it?
  • How does transness intersects with race, transfeminity, fatness, disability and/or sex work in kink for you?
  • Does your kink get beyond the binary of top/bottom or dom/sub (or beyond the spectrum of dom-switch-sub)?
  • What dimensions of your kinky life do you not see represented?
  • How has your relationship with kink changed over time?
  • What are some important moments, experiences and/or people in your kink story?

These are just ideas. You are welcome to propose whatever you like, in whatever form you like! Contributions can be written or visual, photos or drawings, fiction or non-fiction. They could be a list, a sentence, a letter, a rant or a whole story. The only requirement is that you are two-spirit, trans and/or nonbinary.

Image description: Subira Joy’s paintings are mostly neon, black and white & include Black Power fists as well as trans liberation symbols.

PROPOSALS / PROCESS

Contributors will be paid £15 each and will receive a hard copy of the zine. If/when we make an electronic copy, contributors will also receive this.

Please send us a sentence summarizing your proposed contribution. You are welcome to use more sentences or send us items you already have – the point is we do not want you to do any unpaid work in advance. Let us know your pronouns and if you want to publish in your name, with a pen name or anonymously.

You are also welcome to let us know if you are a sex worker, person of colour, a woman, femme, disabled and/or fat – or anything else you’d like us to know about you. This will help us prioritise voices that too often get left out in our selection process. We won’t publish these details or share them with anyone. You are not required to share them with us.

Sadly we do not have enough money or pages to include everyone, so we will select contributors from the proposals. Our selection process will reflect our goals described above.

Proposals should be sent to transkinkzine@gmail.com by Monday 30 November. All proposals will be replied to by Monday 7 December. Contributions will be due by Sunday 10 January.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make the process more accessible for you.
